STANISLAUS COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (October 20, 2024) – At least 17 students were injured in a school bus accident near the intersection of Crow Landing Road and El Katrina Lane.

Stanislaus County officials are saying that the collision took place on Tuesday. A school bus was stopped on Crows Landing Road with red flashing lights and a stop sign displayed.

A semi-truck failed to stop before crashing into a sedan before hitting the school bus. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.

A full investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Legal Considerations For Stanislaus County School Bus Accidents

Semi-trucks are involved in many serious collisions every year. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2022, 5,837 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 1.8% increase from 2021 and a 49% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is up 3% from 2021, and up 24% in the last 10 years.” There are a number of different factors that could contribute to a semi-truck accident.

  • Semi-trucks can weigh 80,000 lbs and take the length of two football fields to come to a stop.
  • Semi-trucks have large blind spots that may obscure the presence of smaller vehicles.
  • Semi-truck drivers are often pushed to work long hours and may become dangerously fatigued.

All semi-truck drivers have a legal obligation to take reasonable steps in order to avoid collisions. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 22350, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.” Victims of semi-truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any driver. A truck driver’s employer could potentially be held at fault. In general, employers are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. Any person injured in a semi-truck accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
