police shootingPomona, CA – Isaac Cannon was fatally shot by Pomona police officers after allegedly chasing people with a gun on Monday, February 4, 2025. The incident occurred near the intersection of Murchison Avenue and Stratus Drive at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Details of the Incident

According to the Pomona Police Department, officers responded to multiple reports of a man wielding a firearm and chasing individuals in the area. When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered the Cannon and allegedly attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, authorities claim that the Cannon refused to comply with commands.

At some point during the confrontation, officers fired their weapons, striking Cannon. Medical personnel were called to the scene, but Cannon was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Family members of Cannon believe he was the victim of a robbery and was chasing the two men involved.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has taken over the investigation into the shooting, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Los Angeles County.

Legal Considerations in Officer-Involved Shootings

Cases involving police use of force often raise important legal and civil rights concerns. Under California Penal Code § 835a, officers are permitted to use deadly force only when they believe it is necessary to defend themselves or others from imminent harm. Additionally, law enforcement agencies must comply with Assembly Bill 392, which redefined the legal standard for police use of force, emphasizing de-escalation and necessity.

Families of individuals killed in police encounters may have grounds to pursue legal action if evidence suggests excessive force was used. A thorough independent investigation is critical in determining whether officers followed proper procedures in this case.
